Mastermind Rogue

Dungeons and Dragons, formerly merely a tabletop game, is now well-known worldwide. Age groups other than teenagers and young adults are also becoming enamored with it. And now, development has been made in relation to one of the outlaws that have the world going crazy over it.

Everyone is occupied with learning and disclosing the hidden techniques for best using that rogue. You may have already heard of the concept we’re discussing, in my opinion. It is, of course, the Fifth Edition of Mastermind Rogue.

Not only that, but we’ve also listed some of the top Rogue subclass archetypes in our article so you can improve your rogue skills and play like an expert. So let’s start by delving into the inner workings of the mastermind rogue, and then we’ll continue.

Mastermind Rogue (5e)

The oddest creature you will ever encounter when playing a D&D rogue is the mastermind rogue from the 5th edition. I am aware that committing crimes in real life is by no means cool. However, as a D&D criminal, I believe there is nothing cooler than this

And when we imagine ourselves to be the Criminal Mastermind, it only brings back the excitement we once had. After all, it takes something special to be the best spy with the most amazing skills.

Let me now briefly introduce you to the genius. A Mastermind is essentially a spy that uses words to persuade or kind of sweet talk with his enemy before stabbing them once he has successfully obtained certain secrets without their awareness.

Although the mastermind was initially intended to be a surveillance character with a talking specialty who was exciting, when anti-divination effects are added to the game, the character may come out as strange and boring. In that situation, the character will only be dependent on the traits of the rogue class.

However, there are several advantages that you may use if you’ve taken part in a campaign that isn’t focused on battle or played in an intrigue. Let’s now go over each skill in more detail.

Master of Intrigue

Even at the minor level, you can unlock this mastermind rogue archetype because it is not difficult to do so; nevertheless, you can only use this mastermind talent once you have achieved level 3.

Moving on, you are a master of six proficiencies as of the time you choose this archetype. You have access to the disguise kit as the first benefit, and you can utilise the forging kit as the second. Another is that, unlike most rogue classes in Dungeons & Dragons, you can select at least one gaming set of your own choosing. The capacity to learn any two languages follows.

The best proficiency right now is being able to accurately imitate any creature you hear speaking for a minute, including their accents and speech patterns. This could be your biggest advantage if you need to pass like a native of a particular country.

We’ll discuss some potential applications for the proficiencies you can access through master of intrigue now that you’ve already examined them:

  • Disguise Kit:

When you need to conceal your identity, these kits can be incredibly helpful. When you need a tactical edge, the kit’s wisdom, intelligence, and charisma can help you put on a convincing disguise. When using this kit, you can quickly escort out of the dungeon without anybody noticing you, kidnap a scout and disguise yourself as them, and use it well in dungeon crawlers.

  • Forgery Kit:

Although this package has little practical utility, it can be useful when you require documents to enter a place. However, take in mind that when playing dungeon crawls, this kit is completely useless.

  • Two Languages:

Learning the two languages will be very beneficial to you. With the aid of this competence, you can easily perform the spells in a much better method because you are aware that it is difficult to cast the spell when you are unfamiliar with the language.

  • Mimicry:

One of the most amazing things you will ever experience is imitation. It is practically applicable everywhere you need to pass like a local to blend in. All you need to do to start doing well is to spend at least one minute listening to a native animal.

Master of Tactics

The master of tactics ability in D&D is one of my favorites because it gives you unlimited access to the aid acts as a bonus. In other words, using the help action through a master of tactics is always permitted. Let me tell you that this skill is also unlocked at level 3, thus the first two levels are not where you may utilise it. Isn’t that sad?

The Help action allows you to support a friendly creature in attacking and destroying an enemy creature when in combat mode, which is now the most significant usage of the master of tactics. Instead of 5 feet, an attack can occur within 30 feet of you. The creature orally you are assisting has access to an ability check thanks to the help action. In light of this, I believe that a master of tactics can be quite useful in regular warfare.

Insightful Manipulator

The mastermind archetype is accessible after you reach level 9, as opposed to the other archetypes, which typically begin at level 3.

As its name implies, this archetype allows you to get into the perspectives of the person you are speaking to. One of the most amazing powers you will ever have, in my opinion. The person’s insights will be displayed on the screen as DM.

However, there is a requirement to peep into someone’s privacy, which is that you must have a conversation with the creature you desire knowledge about for at least one minute. Keep in mind that an insight manipulator won’t reveal everything you want; rather, it will provide only a select few insights, typically 4 or 5, which will mostly include:

  • Wisdom rating
  • rating of intelligence
  • Charisma rating
  • grade level (if there are any)

The four items listed above are the most important pieces of knowledge you will learn. You are also given the choice of accepting or declining optional information, though. That details will be related to the other person’s past or character attributes. Recognizing this information will enable you to identify your opponents, even if they are hiding behind someone else. For instance, if a lich is passing himself off as a farmer, you can recognise him right away by clues about his past.

Misdirection

There is still one more ability, but this is the last one that you can use in battle. When you are engaged in a war campaign, it is useless.

Be very careful when utilising this skill since, if not used carefully, it might lead to a dreadful situation that will not satisfy you at all. This is something you should know before getting into any further detail. You can start employing this archetype at level 13, which is another truth about it.

Let’s now discuss the specifics of this archetype’s competency. The most astonishing aspect of this ability is that by utilising it, you can make a monster suffer a devastating attack that was originally intended for you. This can be a big benefit for you to sustain your falsehoods longer. However, the target of your attack must be a creature that is within 5 feet of you. This means that if you are being attacked and a creature is within five feet of you and providing you with cover, you can use your responses to direct the attack at the creature rather than yourself.

Soul of Deceit

Let’s take a moment to step outside of the game and consider the real world. Almost everyone has a dark fantasy of being able to read the thoughts of others around us, especially our adversaries.

We all naturally want to know what the other person is thinking of us or whether he is keeping something significant from us. Unfortunately, it is only a theory without any claims, and it is not something that can happen in reality.

So let’s return to the game since it gives us the incredible chance to understand what our largest competitors are thinking. Yes, you can read your opponents’ thoughts using the D&D spell Detect Thoughts at level 13, allowing you to find out any secrets they are trying to keep from you.

Note:

Remember that if you can utilise telepathy, your competitors can as well. Therefore, you should always remain in a defensive posture. But it’s not as simple as it seems. Except for the Soul of Deceit, there is no known means in D&D to conceal your thoughts. You can conceal your thoughts using this mastermind archetype, making it impossible for telepathy to access the depths of your mind. Not only that, but the soul of dishonesty also protects you from something else called the Zone of Truth.

This means that no matter what you say, even a falsehood, you can demonstrate your sincerity. The magic spell that allows all players to determine whether their rivals are telling the truth serves as the basis for this skill. Therefore, the soul of dishonesty protects you from these two perilous things that have the potential to blow up all of your secrets.
